Kregen is divided into two separate continent groupings. One, referred to as Paz, is the home of Dray Prescot, and the setting for most of Dray Prescot's adventures. The other, referred to as Schan, is a mysterious place rarely (if ever) visited by Prescot, and is the origin of the marauding Shanks, from over the curve of the world.
While we can only speculate about what is present in schan, lately there has been quite a bit of speculation on the part of many people. So, in an attempt to aid the discussion, I have created this "Hypothetical Map of Schan", which I hope you will all enjoy.
Notes: Part of the inspiration for this map was a discussion on the eGroups - Kregen list, which inspired this idea of what is going on in Schan:
Imagine a large snake-man empire, where both Neeshargs, Shanks, and Shtarkins (and shkanes, and shants too, if those are different) all live. Perhaps, since there seem to be more fish-heads than snake-heads in the initial shank invasion, that a class system exists in their culture, a huge continent spanning empire (let's call it Shar), and perhaps the Schtarkins represent a priest class (Lem?) or nobility. A civil war occurs between the Shtarkins and the Neeshargs, and the Shanks, living on the fringes in the coastal regions, side with the Shtarkins. But they lose.
Now, the vengeful Neeshargs are determined (out of righteous outrage at the atrocities of the Schtarkin-priests, perhaps?) to drive out the Shtarkins and Shanks from their continent, maybe even obliterating them entirely. While the Shanks are masters of the sea, they cannot withstand the land based attacks from the Neeshargs' Risslaca Cavalry. Perhaps the Neeshargs also have some sort of Pterodactylian saddle flyers, and can outscout the fleets of the Shanks, denying them places to land elsewhere.
In order to facilitate the evacuation, someone from Paz (Carazaar, perhaps?) leaks the means of flyer construction to them, although ultimately most of the evacuation must take place by ship. The Shanks stage a few delaying battles to give them time to construct their giant mother-ships, and sail off for the new (to them) world. But experience has taught them that they cannot risk living among other races, or they might be driven from their homes yet again. So, like the Daleks, they decide to Exterminate the Pazzians.
